It's The Thought That Counts
We stopped in at the grocery store
one Easter afternoon,
but I just sat and waited thinking
he would be back soon.
And for some time I sat there
just looking all about,
wondering why it took so long
for him to come back out.
Cause he just went into the store
and envelope to mail,
and with one little thing to do
I thought he'd really sail.
But I could not have been more wrong
I sat there for a while,
and when he finally came back out,
he had this great big smile.
He also had this great big box
of berries in his hand,
a big surprise for me,
but not exactly what he'd planned.
The idea was when he went in
that roses would be nice,
but when he looked them over
he was not pleased with the price.
So with these strawberries
he gets in and as the truck door closes,
he said, "I wanted flowers,
but these were cheaper than the roses."
