Grandfather Memorial Poem

Let's begin with an inspirational verse. It's clearly more on the sentimental side, so if you share it with your grandpa, he may even shed a tear.

The first one was inspired by my grandfather Paul who passed away over a decade ago. He was truly a wonderful human being, and I miss him a lot. He always believed in me, and always encouraged me, even when I was just a few years of age.

The love and patience that he showed me, helped shape me into the person that I am today. I just want to thank him for everything that he has done, and for all his sacrifices. This one is dedicated to him.

My Dear Grandfather

My dear grandfather, a wonderful man,

Always believed in me, knew that I can.

Wisdom of life, openly shared,

Comforted me, when I was scared.

My dear grandfather, routinely amaze,

Since I was little, you gladly helped raise.

Countless things, with patience you taught,

You listened to me, whenever I thought.

My dear grandfather, I truly care,

You've always been, much more than fair.

I'd like to wish you, only the best,

With the dearest grandfather, I have been blessed.

By Martin Dejnicki

At the bottom of this page, you will find a few poems written for grandfathers that have passed away.

Those poems are sad, but they are intended to help us remember our deceased grandfathers.

Grandpa Poems

Hope you enjoy reading and sharing the following funny grandpa poems. These two funny poems were inspired by the memory of my grandpa from my mother's side. He was always very cheerful and practical joker that entertained the whole family.

Joker Grandpa

Always finds a way, to make fun of my folks,

He is hilarious, with plenty of jokes.

A true expert, on many pranks,

For making us laugh; a little thanks.

At the dinner table, he's rarely serious,

His tricks are cool, and quite mysterious.

I'm not saying that he knows magic,

Some of his stunts are lame and tragic.

Grandpa knows how to pull your strings,

A cheerful guy, that constantly sings.

Never know, what he'll come up with next,

Our joker grandpa, fun and perplex.

By Martin Dejnicki

There are a lot of grandpa's out there that are very funny guys.

They are practical joker's that enjoy coming up with pranks and testing them on people.

One of my grandpa's was a chronic prankster. His jokes and pranks always managed to keep the mood very cheerful and happy, wherever he went.

I think the third stanza in the next poem is probably the funniest. I know there are grandpa's out there that fake heart attacks and even death in front of their loved ones as cruel jokes (just to get everyone's heart racing).

Honestly, I can see myself doing that when I become a grandpa. I already enjoy pulling pranks on friends and family.

Fun Grandpa

My grandpa knows, the art of the laugh,

So many jokes, but reveals only half.

We'll enjoy, those fun random talks,

He makes fun of things, during our walks.

Hilarious moments, he will readily find,

Walk into a wall, and pretend to be blind.

Whenever I see him, he's sporting a smile,

Mr. Bean, had a much better style.

A serious illness, for jokes he will fake,

Moments later, random faces he'll make.

Seems like grandpa, just wants to have fun,

At church he tried, to pick up a nun.

By Martin Dejnicki

That last line is my favourite because I could just picture the hilarious scene where an elderly grandpa walks up to a nun in church and asks her out for dinner. A scene like that would be ideal in a famous or new movie. But maybe it happens in real life as well, sometimes.

Grandfather Birthday Poems

Share one of these grandfather birthday poems with your loving grandpa. Whether he is turning 50, 60, 70, or 100, he will appreciate a short rhyming birthday poem.

The first one is meant to be funny, while the second one is sweet and cute. Choose whichever one you like. Enjoy.

Way Past Old

Don't worry grandpa, you're way past old,

I'm your creation, you made me this bold.

Even at your age, your birthday still counts,

Here's a calculator, for your discounts.

Just want to make sure, your b-day is cheerful,

Survived all those wars, nothing you're fearful.

For an old man, you deserve plenty of credit,

Font size of this poem, I just had to edit.

Sorry grandpa, making fun of you is easy,

Your ancient jokes are beyond even cheesy.

So happy birthday, you old fart,

We have loved you, from the very start.

By Martin Dejnicki

So if you plan on sharing that poem with your grandpa, make sure he has a very healthy sense of humour. The last thing you'd want to do is offend your grandfather on his birthday.

Now let's move on to the second grandfather birthday poem.

A Beautiful Man

It's your birthday, you deserve a treat,

You're my grandpa, and you're very sweet.

Whatever you wish or simply desire,

Your kind words, always inspire.

Hope you're not worried, about your age,

You're just turning, another page.

Your journey has been, an exciting book,

Beautiful memories, through pictures we look.

Today we celebrate, your life that's been full,

Happy moments, naturally you pull.

Most importantly, we're here to share,

A beautiful man, with a heart that is rare.

By Martin Dejnicki

That was a very sweet poem that your grandpa will definitely enjoy reading. In the last stanza, the first line states that this will be a celebration of his life. If you really think about it, isn't that what all our birthdays are all about? Celebrating individual lives and showing our friends and family a little bit of gratitude for being in our lives.

I know that some people don't like to celebrate their birthdays. Grandfathers may be susceptible to this because they may think that they are old or just don't want to be reminded of their age and the aging process.

However, I think it's very important to let our grandfathers know that we value their birthdays and we enjoy celebrating their special days with them. Sometimes, they may just need a little bit of encouragement.

Grandfather Poems from Granddaughter

The following two grandfather poems are intended to be shared specifically by their granddaughters.

Precious Grandfather

Precious grandfather, I love you so much,

You kiss my forehead, comforting touch.

Whenever you see me, your eyes glow and shine,

You've age gracefully, like a bottle of wine.

I'm very sad, when there's not enough time,

Being away from you, my heart feels a crime.

You are always in my thoughts and my mind,

Filled with wisdom, to people you're kind.

Oh precious grandfather, just wish to say,

Whenever I see you, you brighten my day.

Looking forward - to the moments we'll share,

Forever your granddaughter, I always be there.

By Martin Dejnicki

In the second stanza of that poem, we are reminded that our grandparents cherish the time that we spend with them, even though those moments may be rare. Sometimes, we just get so caught up in our daily lives, we forget to visit our grandparents that love and adore us so much.

Love and Guidance

Your loving granddaughter thinking of you,

We are a team, our bond is like glue.

A few words, to show how I feel,

Straight from my heart, true and so real.

You have always, been there for me,

Supported me, like the roots of a tree.

Sometimes I caused you, worry and aches,

You pushed me to grow, with my mistakes.

Taught me to be honest, truth never mask,

You listen patiently, when questions I ask.

Thank you so much, for loving me,

Your love and guidance, has set me free.

By Martin Dejnicki

The title of the previous poem summarizes exactly what many of us receive from our grandfathers; love and guidance. With those two things, any grandchild can feel encouraged and motivated to do virtually anything. When a grandfather shows his grandchildren love and guidance, he is building their self-esteem.

I may be very far from being a wise grandfather, but I did try to apply some of what I learned from my grandfather, when interacting with my 10 year old niece. Today, she noticed that I was writing rhyming poetry, so she spent a few hours trying to write some of her own. She sent the finished poem to my email, I read it, and gave her plenty of praise and compliments. You should have seen how this beautiful child was beaming with confidence and appreciation. It was a wonderful site to see.

Grandfather Poems from Grandson

I didn't have to look very far for the inspiration to write the following poems. I just had to look at my personal experiences and moments that I shared with my grandfathers.

Our Experiences

So many things, from you, I've learned,

Your appreciation and time, hope I've earned.

I've always enjoyed, to be around,

Good times with you, I have found.

You're a man of honour and respect,

Our experiences allowed us, to connect.

You're my grandfather, I adore,

By your side, I'd go to war.

I hope one day, I could repay,

Encouraging, are the words you say.

Time with you, I cherish and enjoy,

I felt this way, since I was a boy.

By Martin Dejnicki

That poem reminded me of the few precious moments that I shared with my grandfathers. I wish I had the opportunity to spend more time with them before they passed away. But even with the limited time that we shared together, I managed to learn a lot from them. They taught me important lessons about life when I was a child that I still follow today.

The next grandpa poem is much lighter, and is suppose to be funny. So if you're a grandson and you want to make your old grandpa laugh, print it out and give it to him. Unless of course he has email, than you could just email it to him.

My Old Grandpa

My old grandpa is a champ,

He knows how to hike and camp.

He is just as tough as nails,

Knows a lot, and lots of tales.

My old grandpa speaks his mind,

More than once, he's been fined.

Knows how to get the job done,

Even in the burning sun.

My old grandpa is my buddy,

Not afraid to get bit muddy.

He is really, really cool,

Enjoying life; his #1 rule.

By Martin Dejnicki

That poem just listed a few common characteristics that grandfathers all over the planet share.

Grandfather Poem from Kids

The following poem should be shared with a special grandpa by his grandkids. I'm sure young grandchildren will love to give something unique and special to their grandfathers. If you'd like, you could print out the poem and get the grandchildren to decorate the poem before giving it to grandpa.

Grandpa Best

Grandpa, grandpa, you're the best,

You are old, so get some rest,

We are here with some hugs,

Don't forget to take your drugs.

Grandpa, grandpa, you're the best,

We like the way, you are dressed,

Could you take us to the park?

Why do dogs always bark?

Grandpa, grandpa, you're the best,

You are wiser, than the rest,

Always make us smile and giggle,

You act crazy, when you wiggle.

By Martin Dejnicki

The above verse may be shared by grandkids of any age, but ideally for kids up to ten years of age. I'm in my 30s, but I would still share it with my grandpa, just to make him laugh.

Father's Day Poem for Grandfather

Here's a Father's Day poem that you may share with your grandfather. Don't forget that grandfathers are still fathers, and Father's Day is also their day. I hope your grandpa enjoys the following Father's Day poem.

Champ

A special father and granddad too,

Happy Father's day, from your family crew.

Today we'll treat you like a king,

You're a champ, you've got the ring.

Choose whatever, you wish to eat,

A huge steak, with lots of meat.

Don't forget it's your day,

Nothing wrong with hair, that's grey.

Hope you enjoy and have lots of fun,

A grandfather like you, we have won.

Thanks for being, exactly you,

You're a champ, and that is true.

By Martin Dejnicki

If you'd like, you may also share the above poem with your grandfather on Grandfather's Day also known as Grandparents Day.

Funeral Poems for Grandfather

The following funeral poems for a grandfather may be shared with family and friends that are mourning the loss of a deceased grandfather. Dealing with the death of a grandfather could be very difficult, especially if you were very close to him.

The first poem is titled, "Rest in Peace", and may be read out at Grandpa's funeral, viewing, or just read out privately. The choice is yours. It all depends on your situation.

Rest in Peace

He has left us, and we're so sad,

A wonderful grandpa, and a dad.

This loss of ours, is very deep,

We are here, to mourn and weep.

It's so hard to say goodbye,

To such a wonderful and special guy.

Many of us, he has inspired,

We all loved him, and admired.

To many of us, he was a friend,

We could all rely and depend.

We'll all miss him, so much and dearly,

Rest in peace, we wish sincerely.

By Martin Dejnicki

The above poem could also be shared at the funeral of a great grandfather. You may even read it out during his eulogy. It will probably be emotional when reading it out, however it's fairly short (only 3 stanzas) so I know you can do it.

It can also be very difficult for a child to find out that their favourite grandpa has passed and that he has left this world.

Grandfather Memorial Poem

Here's a very short grandfather memorial poem, that you may share with your family and friends, as you mourn and celebrate the life of your deceased grandfather.

In Loving Memory of (name of deceased)

(insert name of deceased) was wonderful and kind,

He also had a beautiful mind.

RIP, we would like to say,

Miss you and love you, today as we pray.

(insert name of deceased) lived life with passion and grace,

Forever in our hearts, he'll have a place.

Now that life has set you free,

We'll join you soon, we hope you see.

By Martin Dejnicki

I hope you enjoyed reading these grandfather poems. I know the last few were a bit sad, since they were written for funerals and memorials.

However, if you are fortunate enough to still have your grandfather around, don't forget to show him some love by sharing these poems with him.

Feel free to choose a few that he will definitely enjoy.

If he's one of those modern grandfathers, just email them to him, otherwise, you may need to print them out. Enjoy!
